Editorial Ethics, Independence & Disclaimer
Retrograde is an independent personal publication written and maintained by Keith Jones.
The views, opinions, analysis, and commentary published here are entirely my own and do not represent the views of OpenAI, any current or former employer, client, partner, investor, or affiliated organization.
I currently work at OpenAI. Prior to that, I worked at Gartner and have spent much of my career operating within the broader technology ecosystem. Those experiences inevitably inform my perspective, just as any writer's background informs theirs.
What I can promise is transparency regarding that perspective and a good-faith effort to separate observation from advocacy.
What Retrograde Is
Retrograde is a publication focused on technology, AI, enterprise systems, consumer gadgets, internet culture, organizational behavior, and the recurring human patterns that emerge beneath technological change.
It is commentary, analysis, and personal reflection.
It is not corporate communications, public relations, investor relations, or official commentary on behalf of any company.
Independence
Retrograde does not accept:
- Sponsored content
- Paid advertisements
- Vendor-funded editorial coverage
- Referral fees
- Affiliate commissions
- Consulting fees from companies discussed in coverage
- Payment in exchange for favorable commentary, reviews, or analysis
The goal is simple: readers should be able to assume that opinions expressed here are not influenced by financial relationships with the subjects being discussed.
If that ever changes, this policy will change with it.
Sources & Confidential Information
I do not publish confidential, proprietary, privileged, or non-public information.
Commentary related to technology companies, AI organizations, products, markets, or industry developments is based on publicly available information, personal experience, and independent analysis.
When discussing companies, products, or trends, I may occasionally be wrong. The goal is thoughtful analysis, not insider reporting.
Bias & Perspective
I do not claim to be a neutral observer, nor do I believe such a thing truly exists.
Every writer brings a set of experiences, incentives, interests, and assumptions to their work.
My perspective is shaped by a career spent working in technology, studying technology, implementing technology, and occasionally being far too online for my own good.
My goal is not objectivity in the sense of having no perspective.
My goal is transparency about that perspective and intellectual honesty in how it is applied.
In Plain English
Retrograde is one person trying to better understand technology, systems, incentives, and human behavior in public.
The opinions are mine.
The mistakes are mine.
The curiosity is definitely mine.
